Who Am I?

My name is Sarah McGlynn and I am a Nationally Board Certified (Early to Middle Literacy), Masters Educated (Special Education) Special Education Teacher about to begin my 18th year teaching.  I have a true passion for teaching struggling readers to find their light bulb moments as they learn to read for the first time and conquer difficult concepts that have been struggles for them...there's nothing better!!

In my continuing quest to find and learn the best teaching strategies for dyslexic and struggling readers, I seized the opportunity to attend an initial Orton-Gillingham 30hr instructional course.  I was hooked!  I continued my learning through the pandemic with over 150 hours of instruction, weekly meetings with a coach and lesson plan submission to ensure instructional fidelity, and the passage of several intensive content area assessments (the brain, dyslexia, instructional practices, etc.).

I am currently the only teacher to hold the IMSE Comprehensive Certification between Des Moines and Chicago and would LOVE the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with your student.  This curriculum is intensive, multi-sensory, and highly engaging.  I have had the joy of teaching it to several students and have seen astounding growth come from significant set-backs.

Additionally, I personally feel it is as important for a student with any reading or social-emotional/behavioral struggles to learn what their super powers are, how to use them to increase their skills and relationships with others, and how to advocate for themselves going forward.  These skills will be embedded into the instruction for each session.  My goal for when a student leaves my instruction is that he/she will know I will be an ongoing ally for them, they'll feel empowered to face any challenges coming before them, and will be reading and writing with confidence.

Where Do We Meet?

We will meet at CoworkQC in downtown davenport.  Parking is free on the street surrounding the building, and there are two parking garages within a block's walk.

I can't wait to meet you and your student and look forward to working together soon!

~ Sarah
